4 Important Web Design Basics

Web design is a field that is guided, and, in some cases, regulated by a set code and guidelines. For one to be able to bring his or her idea to life, they must have a good grasp of the basics of web design. Certain concepts make the whole development process easy and worthwhile. Here are some of them:

The first and most important question to ask oneself is what the purpose of the website is? What problem is it solving or need is it filling? Why would an internet user visit it? With the purpose defined, all the other pieces start falling into place.

The layout follows the purpose. If it’s an entertainment website, there could be a section for audio streaming, video streaming, a gallery and information about the featured artists. If it’s an online store, there will be a clear display of products with each bearing its description underneath. The picture builds in the designer’s mind.

Design Approach

It now comes down to the development process. Which method is the most efficient? The best method is one that utilizes the least amount of resources but still delivers the best quality. It also depends on the client. If it is a personal website, one can start out with a simple approach then upgrade in the future. For a large company, there is no holding back.

Tools & Resources

Getting the right tools for the job gets the designer halfway there. There are plenty of free online tools for beginners, but large companies invest millions in accessing the best design tools in the market. Again, it all boils down to the intended purpose.

Even though every website needs to be different and unique, the basics are always the same. New technology comes with new ways of doing the same thing. With the basics well-mastered, no method or technology will be too overwhelming to apply.
